Hana to hebi: kyûkyoku nawa chôkyô (1987)

Extreme Japanese filmmaker Takashi Ishii (GONIN, FREEZE ME) directs the adaptation of erotica author Dan Oniroku's novel FLOWER AND SNAKE (HANA TO HEBI). Shizuko, the dancer wife of a wealthy businessman, is ignored by her husband due to his high-pressure job. As a result, she begins to have a series of disturbing, masochistic fantasies. But her husband's many debts lead to those fantasies becoming reality, whether Shizuko wants them to or not, when Mr. Tashiro, a powerful crime boss, kidnaps her as payment. He submits her to a series of sexual tortures for his own pleasure, but doesn't realize that she may be enjoying the experience as well. FLOWER AND SNAKE is a sexploitation film with high production values, and is for mature audiences only. (from uk.rottentomatoes.com)

Miyamoto Musashi, aka Samurai! part 1 (1954, Japanese, subtitled)

One of the true classics of Japanese cinema. In this part I of Inagaki's epic trilogy, a youngToshiro Mifune plays Takezo (Musashi), by legend the greatest swordsman who ever lived. He becomes an outlaw after being in an army on the losing side of a battle. When he is captured, a monk from his village offers to reform him, and tortures him by suspension in a tree. He is held with a combination of a chest harness and seat harness, with his arms behind his back, for at least 24 hours, before begging for mercy. If you like this movie be sure to watch the entire trilogy. The battle scenes in parts 2 and 3 are legendary. This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and it is now available as a complete set on DVD.
